The X-47B was never intended to be a production combat aircraft. It was a technology demonstrator to prove:
- That unmanned aircraft could safely operate from U.S. Navy carriers alongside manned fighters
- The viability of autonomous navigation, approach, landing, and refueling
- Stealth integration with naval operations
